PlaceMakers has an extensive range of panels including Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF), Particleboard, Strandboard, Hardboard and Softboard. Pick your preferred panel depending on the type of application.

  • Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF)

    1. Medium-density fibreboard is an engineered wood product made by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibres, often in a defibrator, combining it with wax and a resin binder, and forming panels by applying high temperature and pressure.
    1. These characteristics allow intricate and precise machining and finishing techniques when producing high quality furniture and cabinetry components. The flat smooth surface of this product is uniform, dense and free of knots and grain patterns, making finishing operations simpler and more economical.
    2. Available in a range of sizes and thicknesses from 3mm – 25mm and options like Light panel, Zero formaldehyde, Moisture Resistant (MR) etc.
    3. Uses:
    • Furniture
    • Cupboard doors
    • Stairs
    • Chairs
    • Pianos
    • Kitchen units

    • Tropical and high humidity regions (MR)
  • Particleboard

    1. Particleboard is an engineered wood product manufactured from wood chips, sawmill shavings, or even sawdust, and a synthetic resin or other suitable binder, which is pressed and extruded.
    2. Superfine® and Superfine MR® are medium density, grainless, resin bonded particleboard panels which have a fine uniform surface and are manufactured locally from renewable New Zealand Radiata Pine.
    3. Available in a range of sizes and thicknesses from 9mm – 35mm and Standard and Moisture Resistant (MR) options

  • Strandboard

    1. Trade Essentials® Strandboard® is a versatile reconstituted wood panel manufactured entirely from renewable plantation pine timber. It is designed specifically for a range of building and furniture & joinery applications.
    2. Strandboard® is identified by its characteristic wood strand surface. The resin used has been developed to resist the effects of moisture in areas of high humidity and reduce the emission of formaldehyde.
    3. Available in 9mm and 12mm and a variety of sizes
    4. Uses:
    • Wall and ceiling linings
    • Partitions – in general areas including changing rooms and toilets
    • Flooring overlays
    • General cabinet carcass work
    • Wall bracing
  • Hardboard

    1. Hardboard is a wood fibre building board available as Standard, Tempered or Pegboard. The fine, densely bonded, wood fibre structure of Standard Hardboard ensures excellent machining and working properties using normal woodworking equipment or hand tools.
    2. In addition, the smooth face surface provides an ideal base for paint finishing with most industrial and domestic coatings. The back surface is characterised by a fine, wire screen texture.
    3. It is available in a range of accurately dimensioned sheet sizes and in thicknesses of 3.2mm, 4.8mm and 6.4mm.
    4. It is intended for dry area, interior use. Typical applications include:
    • Building: as interior wall and ceiling linings.
    • Door and partition surfacings.
    • Furniture and Joinery: in flush or fancy doors, backs for furniture, cupboards, vanity tables and mirrors. Chair and pouffe bases, shelves, drawer bottoms and divan bases.
    • Display: straight or shaped display bases for screen printing, lettering, shop fitting and notice boards.
